Health Benefits
Raspberry Leaf (rubies idaeus)- Often referred to as “the women’s herb”, is a wonderful plant which offers a range of benefits – and not just to assist during pregnancy. Packed with vitamin B and C, and a range of important minerals, including magnesium, zinc and iron. It also contains polyphenols and flavonoids which are antioxidants. To support pregnancy, a component of raspberry leaf, fragarine, has been linked to strengthening the muscles of the pelvic region, which can help in the delivery of babies and to also prevent excessive bleeding after childbirth.
Nettle Leaf (Urtica dioica)-Contains chlorophyll, which is very closely related to haemoglobin. Nettles can also support the kidneys. Given that pregnant women process 50% more blood than normal, effective kidney function is very important. Vitamins A, C, D and K offer a range of support including haemorrhage and haemorrhoid prevention.
Alfalfa (medicago sativa)- Contains a wide range of minerals and vitamins including high levels of vitamin K, which is necessary for babies to grow, and has been shown to help blood coagulate and prevent bleeding and haemorrhaging. It can also be beneficial to help increase milk supply.
Rosehip (rosa canina) – An excellent source of vitamin C. This may help the absorption of iron in the body – essential for your growing baby. Vitamin C also aids in the production of collagen, an integral part of the development of bones, muscles and cartilage. Rosehip also shows astringent properties which can can help with bladder control.
Spearmint (Mentha spicata)- An antioxidant herb with a soothing, calminative action. It is great for relaxing stomach muscles and is preferred over peppermint which can increase reflux.
